FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q. What type of individual are we looking for?
A. We are looking for honest individuals who are searching for the ultimate summer coaching/teaching experience. You must crave the opportunity to explore and travel the USA, discover and embrace new cultures, and be prepared to act as an ambassador for your country.
UKISC Coaches must possess an abundance of self confidence & commitment, energy and enthusiasm, and the desire and ability to mesmerize a group of children during their time with them and ultimately, make a difference!
Q. Where do I fly to?
A. Los Angeles, Chicago, Detroit, Orlando or New York.
Q. Can I choose where I want to work?
A. No. However, you may intimate a preference (i.e., East Coast, West Coast or Midwest). Please note those applicants who are most flexible will enhance their employment opportunities.
Q. Where do I stay?
A. Normally you will stay with a host family who will have at least one child attending camp. The host family will usually provide your meals throughout the week as well as hospitality second to none. Occasionally you may stay in hotels (UKISC pays for your accommodation).
Q. Is there any opportunity for advancement?
A. Most successful coaches will have the opportunity to become camp directors. There may also be possibilities for coaches to work during the spring and fall periods. Note: All full-time managers started their UKISC careers as summer coaches!
Q. What ages are the players we coach?
A. Coaching instruction is delivered on camp to children aged between 4 and 18 years of age.
Q. What are the hours of camp?
A. Normal camp hours are 3 hours per day, during the morning, afternoon or evening from Monday to Friday. We also offer Saturday morning coaching clinics for parent coaches, goalkeepers and strikers. Some camps are run on a full-day basis and others are residential. Both of these mean longer working hours and payment is pro-rated.
Q. What should the kids and their parents expect from our camp?
A. UKISC experience should result in each child discovering a magical week of soccer learning, fun and cultural diversity.
Q. How will I travel from camp to camp?
A. UKISC will provide transportation from camp to camp. Normally the Camp Director will drive staff to and from camp each day in a company issued vehicle. Having a valid driving license will enhance opportunity.
Q. How and when do I get paid?
A. UKISC will open a bank account on your behalf and provide you with an ATM card (similar to Switch). Wages are paid on a fortnightly basis directly into a bank account and vary according to experience, responsibilities and type of camp worked. The minimum wage paid to our coaches is $160 per week for the minimum sessions worked (most earn much more than this) and some coaches have the opportunity to earn up to $420 per week. Individual contracts specify wages.
Q. Can I come with a friend?
A. You may apply with a friend; however, we cannot guarantee you will be on the same camps. (It is proven that you will actually gain more from the experience when you meet and work with new people.)
